WOCHIVI attending Arusha annual NGO forum August 2024

Earlier today, Women and Child Vision (WOCHIVI) met with the staff of the Member of Parliament for Hai District to discuss strategies for tackling the rising problem of alcohol and substance abuse in the Kilimanjaro region. The meeting focused on understanding the root causes of substance abuse in the area and identifying effective approaches to prevent and reduce its impact, particularly on young people and vulnerable groups. WOCHIVI shared its experiences from ongoing community-based initiatives, emphasizing the importance of public awareness, education, and grassroots involvement in addressing the issue.

The discussion also highlighted the need for stronger partnerships between local authorities, community organizations, and healthcare providers to create a more coordinated response. WOCHIVI proposed several intervention strategies, including launching prevention programs in schools, providing support services for those struggling with addiction, and implementing stricter regulations on the sale of alcohol to minors. The organization stressed the value of integrating rehabilitation and counseling services into local healthcare facilities, ensuring that individuals affected by substance abuse have access to the help they need to recover and reintegrate into society.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to prioritize the fight against substance abuse in the region, setting the groundwork for collaborative efforts between WOCHIVI, the MP’s office, and other stakeholders. WOCHIVI expressed its commitment to continue working closely with local leaders and community members to implement sustainable solutions aimed at reducing alcohol and drug abuse, thereby improving the health and well-being of families in Kilimanjaro. The organization is optimistic that these joint efforts will lead to significant progress in curbing substance abuse and fostering a safer and healthier environment for all.
